  1. How do I make an application?

The application process is designed to be simple and progressive. You will be guided through it as you first search and then apply for a job. If you wish to know more about how to make an application prior to commencing an application, then please refer to the How to Apply  page.

  2. I have made some mistakes on my application form - how can I correct them?

Unfortunately, once you have submitted your application form online you cannot change your details.  If you need to change your details please use the contact telephone numbers as they appear on the site.

  3. Can you tell me if you have received my application?

Once we receive your application online we will send you an email to confirm receipt.  Normally you should hear from us within six weeks if you have been shortlisted for interview, otherwise you should assume your application has been unsuccessful.

  4. How long will I have to wait to find out if my application is successful?

If you have not heard from the School within six weeks of the closing date you should assume your application has been unsuccessful.

  5. I am applying for more than one job, do I need to fill out a separate application form?

For every post advertised you must ensure that you complete a separate application form and provide us with a separate supporting statement.  You cannot use one application form to apply for more than one job.  The information you complete on your initial application, including your supporting statement, will however be saved for you to resubmit or amend to suit subsequent applications.

  6. Can you send me a paper application pack?

We would like to encourage you to apply online as the system is user-friendly and the application simple to complete.  However if you would like a paper application pack these are available from the Personnel Office, London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, Keppel Street, London, WC1E 7HT, telephone +44 (0)20 7927 2201/2951.

Alternatively you can e-mail personnel@lshtm.ac.uk to request a pack by email.  Please note the information sent to you will be exactly the same as the information on our website and you should allow at least four working days for the information to arrive with you.

  7. Who should I provide as my referees?

Your referees must be able to comment on your past employment and recent work performance in relation to the post’s selection criteria.  It is advised that your most recent, direct supervisor/line manager, or, if you have just completed full-time education, the Head/Principal or Tutor, is nominated as one of your referees.  Do not include family members or friends.  Please note that referees' details are compulsary fields on our application form.  There is an option to indicate that referees should not be contacted at the time of application.

  8. I have missed the closing date. Can I still apply?

Unfortunately, once the post has been closed no further applications will be accepted.

  9. What is the Equal Opportunities Form used for?

The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine is committed to being an equal opportunity employer.  It is our intention to ensure that job applicants and staff are treated solely on the basis of their merits, abilities and potential, regardless of gender, race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, age, socio-economic background, disability, religious or political beliefs, trade union membership, family circumstances, sexual orientation or other irrelevant distinction.

The information gathered on the form is used to assist in monitoring the effectiveness of our policy. It will not be seen by staff involved in shortlisting for the post.  In accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998, the School will seek your explicit permission should it intend to process any sensitive personal data for any reason other than Equal Opportunity purposes or exercising a legal right or obligation required by law.  Sensitive data includes your racial or ethnic origin, sexuality, political beliefs, trade union membership, religious beliefs, and physical or mental health.

  10. I cannot make the interview date/time. Is it possible to rearrange it?

It is often not possible to re-arrange interview dates because of existing commitments from panel members, but we may be able to accommodate changes to the time of your interview. If you are unable to attend please contact personnel@lshtm.ac.uk in the first instance. Unfortunately if we are unable to reschedule your interview, and you cannot attend, we will not consider your application in absentia.

  11. How do I get a job here?

  12. Can I send a speculative CV?

At the moment LSHTM does not accept speculative CVs. We suggest that you check our site regularly for jobs that may interest you, or better still, register for our free Jobs by EMail service.

  13. How do we protect your information?

We use a server certificate (also known as a digital certificate) to assure you of our identity and secure sockets layer (SSL) to encrypt data transmissions.
