The Research Operations office is seeking an experienced higher education professional to lead their contracts management function for our London based Faculties.

The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine is a world-leading centre for research and postgraduate education in public and global health. Our mission is to is to improve health and health equity in the UK and worldwide; working in partnership to achieve excellence in public and global health research, education and translation of knowledge into policy and practice.

The Research Operations office manages the School's portfolio of external research funding, with responsibility for pre-award, post-award and contract support. Stakeholders across the School include academic staff and project managers, based both in London and overseas. The team manages over 250 applications each year and a portfolio of nearly 700 grants from a wide spectrum of funders with a total value exceeding £500M.

Reporting to the Head of research Contracts, the Senior Research Contracts Manager will manage a team of 6 staff who are responsible for reviewing and negotiating research contracts with funders, collaborators and philanthropic donors in relation to projects being undertaken by our London based Faculties.

The successful candidate will be educated to degree level, or have equivalent, or substantial relevant experience; have extensive experience in the management of research contracts in a Higher Education setting; will have line and/or operational management experience and strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage workload allocation, develop and support staff through formal and informal frameworks; will be financially literate with sound knowledge of budgeting methodologies and resource management concepts including FEC and TRAC; will have proven ability to understand and interpret complex contract documentation and funder financial terms and conditions; will have excellent oral and written communication skills as well as excellent level of written and spoken English. The post is full time and permanent. The salary will be on the Professional salary scale Grade 7 in the range £46,704 to £53,465 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service.  Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Director’s Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
