Applications are invited for a medical statistician/epidemiologist to join the LSHTM team who are co leading an important study of Sars-CoV-2 epidemiology in English schools. The COVID-19 school infection study ( is recruiting a sample of primary and secondary schools and asking them to take part in the study, which is being sponsored by the Department of Health and Social Care. Students and staff will be tested at termly intervals during the school year to detect new cases, monitor attendance rates and reasons for not attending school, and assess the effectiveness of measures put in place to control the virus. 

The role holder will be involved in all aspects of the statistical analysis of data from this study.  The successful applicant will have a doctoral degree in medical statistics or epidemiology or equivalent; expertise in the use of statistical software for the analysis of large data sets, ideally including infectious disease epidemiology, longitudinal data and analyses of clustered data; experience of health research in school settings. Further particulars are included in the job description.

The post is full time, based in London and is funded until 30th September 2021. The salary will be on the Academic scale, Grade 7 in the range £46,704 - £53,465 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service.  Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Director’s Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
