Research Assistant

Department of Global Health & Development

Salary:  £34,854 to £40,011 per annum, inclusive.

The Department of Global Health and Development (GHD) conducts novel and policy-relevant research and training that concerns health issues with a global reach, predominantly from the perspective of the development of low- and middle-income countries. Staff come from a wide range of disciplines including economics, epidemiology, mathematics, policy analysis, medicine and social anthropology.

This role is within the Child Protection Research Group, working on a study examining the relationship between violence in childhood and work outcomes, and whether skills building programmes may help support young people in Uganda into decent work, as well as other epidemiological research on prevention of violence. The study is a collaboration between LSHTM, Makerere University, and University College London. It is an evidence synthesis of international studies and data, as well as data from Uganda.

The role will involve providing input into the research activities, which may include supporting literature reviews and data analysis, as well as providing overall project management and working closely with the team in the UK and Uganda to prepare for the project’s dissemination activities. The post holder is expected to have a postgraduate degree or equivalent training, in a subject such as epidemiology, social science or public health, as well as experience in project management and an interest in dissemination of research activities. The post is fixed term at 1FTE until 30th November 2021. The post is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council and is available immediately.

The salary will be on the Academic scale, Grade 5 in the range £34,854 - £40,011 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service.  Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Director’s Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
