Assistant Professor in Clinical Vaccinology / Vaccinology

The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is one of the world’s leading public health universities. The post will be based at The Medical Research Council Unit The Gambia (the Unit), a faculty of LSHTM. 

The Vaccines and Immunity Theme hosts a diverse range of projects including basic laboratory immunology, serology, microbiology and genomics, through early- and late phase vaccine trials, epidemiological, data, and social science research.  We have an increasingly diverse programme of research covering pathogens and diseases of public health importance both globally and in West Africa including those with epidemic potential. 

The successful candidate will be educated to a doctoral degree along with expertise in any relevant research area within the Viral Pathogens Theme along with experience in conducting research in Low- and Middle-Income Countries. Previous contributions as lead author in peer-reviewed outputs is required with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a research team. Strong understanding of strategies to bring Equity and inclusion in research is essential with some experience of supporting junior researchers and leading a research team. Engagement with national or international policy advisory bodies will be essential. Further particulars are included in the job description. 

The post is full time 35 hours per week, 1.0 FTE and fixed-term until 31 March 2027. The post is funded by MRCG at LSHTM and is available immediately. 

The salary will be on the Academic Pathway salary scale, Grade 7 in the range £51,299 - £58,723 per annum. The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in The Gambia at MRCG at LSHTM.
