Research Fellow (Maternity Cover, 0.25 FTE)

Malaria and curable sexually transmitted infections (STIs) during pregnancy contribute disproportionately to adverse pregnancy outcomes, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa. We are currently seeking a Research Fellow who can support two clinical trials in East Africa that are designed to reduce the burden of these infections. The candidate will report to the PI of both trials and work closely with the LSHTM study staff and other scientists from LSHTM, and other UK institutions, as well as field partners at the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC) in Tanzania and the Tropical Disease Research Centre (TDRC) in Zambia.

There will be excellent career development opportunities and the postholder will be expected to contribute to grant writing, supervision of students, presentations at conferences and meetings, preparation of publications, teaching and public engagement. 

We are looking for a highly motivated scientist with excellent attention to detail, outstanding teamwork, organisational and scientific skills. The successful candidate will have a postgraduate degree, ideally a doctoral degree, in a relevant field, knowledge of malaria infection and curable sexually transmitted and reproductive tract infections in pregnancy, prior peer-reviewed publication on the topic of infections in pregnancy (malaria and/or curable sexually transmitted infections). The post is funded at 0.25 FTE from 01 July 2021 to 30 April 2022 to cover maternity leave. The salary will be on the Academic Grade 6 scale in the range £40,011 - £45,437 per annum pro rata (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Director’s Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London, Keppel Street.
