Research Fellow in Behavioural Intervention

Salary:  £38,533 to £43,759 per annum, inclusive.

We are seeking to appoint one Research Fellow with a background in design and evaluation of behavioural interventions. The post is based in the Department of Non-Communicable Disease Epidemiology at LSHTM, but working in close collaboration with colleagues at Chiang Mai University in Thailand. 

The successful applicant will coordinate an exciting new project aiming to develop a Diabetes Self-Management Education program for implementation and evaluation within the Thai national health system. The specific objectives of the project are to: a) to design a culturally-tailored intervention, b) evaluate the effectiveness and cost effectiveness of alternative modes of delivery of the intervention in a 3-arm cluster randomized trial (nurse-led, peer-led, control) in primary care networks in Chiang Mai district, and c) identify the most scalable model for intervention delivery in the Thai national healthcare system. The post-holder will be expected to a) coordinate the delivery of the project (intervention development and evaluation), b) act as a liaison between UK and Thai team, and c) contribute to writing and analysis of scientific papers arising from the project. The post-holder will be expected to undertake high-quality research and scholarship, as well as contribute to peer-reviewed publications.

Applicants must have a PhD or substantial experience in design or evaluation of behavioral interventions. Specific experience of diabetes self-management education is also desirable. Excellent communication and management skills suitable for the coordination of an international research team would be an advantage.

The post is based in London at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. It is full time, available immediately and is funded until 31st March 2021. The salary will be on the Academic Grade 6 scale in the range £38,533 - £43,759 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service.  Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Director’s Days”. Membership of the USS Pension Scheme is available.
