Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology

Salary:  £40,611 to £46,119 per annum, inclusive.

We have a vacancy for a mathematical modeller, medical statistician or epidemiologist with strong quantitative skills, to join a leading group working on the control of malaria in sub-Saharan Africa using vaccines and drugs.

The post-holder will use mathematical modelling and analysis of data from observation studies and trials to investigate how to optimize two preventive interventions (seasonal malaria chemoprevention, and malaria vaccination) in areas of seasonal malaria transmission, prepare research findings for publication, and contribute to the School’s postgraduate teaching programme.

Applicants should have a postgraduate qualification in Epidemiology, Mathematical Modelling of infectious diseases, Medical Statistics or related subject, with a strong interest in quantitative methods applied to public health. The ability to work both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary scientific team is essential. Experience working with malaria data or mathematical modelling of infectious diseases, or interactions with policy makers or disease control programme managers would be an advantage. This post is fixed term for 24 months and is available full-time (1.0 FTE - 35 hours per week), but a lower FTE will be considered. This role is eligible for sponsorship subject to the FTE offered. The post is funded by the Wellcome Trust and is available immediately. 

The salary will be on the Academic pathways Grade 6 at £40,611 - £46,119 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service.  Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London.
