Research Nurse (Ethiopia)

An exciting position for a Research Nurse is available to join the LSHTM collaboration with Haramaya University (HU) in Eastern Ethiopia, known as the Hararghe Health Research partnership (HHR). The post is a key role in the Ethiopia-based team, and the successful candidate will oversee and co-ordinate development of nursing capacity in partnership with hospital and research staff employed by Haramaya University.

A programme of research is being developed between LSHTM and HU, based on the initial investment of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in the Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance (CHAMPS) project. CHAMPS includes streams of work for social science, clinical surveillance, microbiology and pathology and an international standard laboratory has been set up on-site to support this work.

The successful candidate will have a nursing degree or diploma and registration with the Nursing or Midwifery Council (or equivalent), experience working in the Emergency Department and caring for paediatric patients, Professional Diploma in Tropical Nursing (or equivalent experience), skills in teaching and training others and previous experience working in a low-income country. We are looking for someone who is motivated, flexible, has managed a team, is a good team player, a creative problem solver and a clear communicator. The post is full-time and based in Ethiopia and currently fixed term for 6 months.  The salary will be on the Professional Services salary scale Grade 5 in the range £34,854 - £40,011 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service.  Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Director’s Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
