Research Associate - Synthesis and Reviews

Salary:  £34,854 to £40,011 per annum, inclusive.

The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine is a world-leading centre for research and postgraduate education in public and global health. The International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie) seeks a candidate to serve as a Research Associate for one year at the London Office, which is hosted at London International Development Centre by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. 

The post holder will be based within 3ie office at the London International Development Centre (LIDC), LSHTM, working with Senior Evaluation Specialist and the Director of Synthesis and Reviews Office where practical, with the relevant country offices. The person appointed will be expected to work on evidence synthesis and impact evaluations.

Specific functions of the role include:

  • Contributing to the production of systematic reviews and evidence gap maps of evidence of the effectiveness of social and economic interventions in low- and middle-income countries. 
  • Activities include: developing and carrying out a systematic search of the literature; screening titles and abstracts; critical appraisal; extracting data from the included studies; and synthesizing evidence.
  • Conducting analysis of the extracted data such as, for example, meta-analysis of quantitative information, thematic synthesis of qualitative information, and cost-effectiveness analysis.
  • Helping to present the findings in a clear, concise way, and preparing reports for publication.
  • Contributing to the daily functions of the Synthesis and Reviews Office including writing summaries of systematic reviews and providing assistance with administrative tasks. 

This is an excellent opportunity for an early career researcher to develop skills in policy-relevant research (systematic reviews and impact evaluations) that aims to improve lives in low- and middle-income countries. Applicants must have Master’s degree, in social science, political science, economics, public health or equivalent subject. 

The post is funded until 5th September2021. The salary will be on the Academic pathways Grade 5 scale in the range £34,854- £43,442 perannum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service.  Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Director’s Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available.
