The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is one of the world’s leading public health universities. This is a unique opportunity for a statistician, epidemiologist, health services researcher or data scientist to take a key role in the National Cancer Audit Collaborating Centre (NATCAN), a national centre of excellence dedicated to strengthening NHS cancer services. You will take a leading role in multidisciplinary teams, working alongside clinicians and other stakeholders, and develop / apply innovative analytical methods to transform national cancer datasets into evidence that improves cancer care. Areas for development include: understanding patterns of treatments and outcomes along complex care pathways; handling records with missing / erroneous data; developing risk models; and communicating findings to stimulate quality improvement.

Applicants must have a doctoral degree in medical statistics, epidemiology, data science or a related discipline along with experience of analysing large complex datasets, proven ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a research team.

The post is full-time hours 35 per week, 1.0 FTE and fixed term until 30 September 2028. The post is funded by the partnership agreement between the LSHTM and Royal College of Surgeons of England that supports the Clinical Effectiveness Unit, where NATCAN is based. It is available from 01 September 2026.

The salary will be on the LSHTM salary scale, for Assistant Professor Grade 7 in the range £53,317 - £61,034 or for Associate Professor Grade 8 in the range £64,469 - £73,994 per annum pro rata (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at LSHTM.
