The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is one of the world’s leading public health universities. We are recruiting a Research Fellow or Assistant Professor to work on The OptiMAx project focused on integrated nutritional activities to increase immunisation coverage that aims to assess the potential impact of jointly programming monthly supplementation with small-quantity lipid based nutrient supplements (SQ-LNS) with immunisation services in Chad and Niger. LSHTM is a partner in this project; outcomes include new knowledge generation on the bidirectional relationship between vaccine-preventable diseases and malnutrition and supportive evidence for potential scale up of integrated nutritional and immunisation programmes in low- and middle-income countries.

The post-holder will be responsible for bringing forward an innovative programme of work to investigate the impact of the OptiMAx programme through mixed-methods process evaluation and gender analysis. 

The post-holder must have a postgraduate degree, ideally a doctoral degree, in a relevant topic (Research Fellow) or doctoral degree in relevant topic (Assistant Professor). A willingness to travel to Chad and Niger occasionally and fluency in French is essential at Assistant Professor level. Further particulars are included in the job description. 

The post is part-time 12.25 hours per week, 0.35 FTE and fixed-term until 31 March 2027. The post is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and is available from 01 May 2026.

The salary for Research Fellow will be on the LSHTM salary scale, Grade 6 in the range £45,728-£51,872 and Grade 7 for Assistant Professor £53,317-£61,034 per annum pro rata (inclusive of London Weighting).  The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service.  Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part-time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at LSHTM.
