Library, Archive & Open Research Services (LAORS) at LSHTM is looking for an Assistant Archivist to take responsibility for all aspects of the delivery of archive services, ensuring an excellent standard of customer service. All duties are delivered on site. The Assistant Archivist manages the Archives Assistant, and occasional volunteers and placement students working within Archives & Records Management This is an excellent opportunity for someone to develop their skills and experience across a number of responsibilities in a wide-ranging role.

The post holder manages the Archive Search Room, trains staff and volunteers, oversees enquiries and appointments and the administration of associated records, and promotes the archives. The Assistant Archivist appraises and catalogues archive collections and ensures their long term preservation, maintains LSHTM’s image repository and assists in the operation of LSHTM’s records management service.

You will hold a recognised postgraduate qualification in archive administration with proven experience of working in an archives environment and of sorting, appraising and cataloguing collections, and demonstrable knowledge of international standards in archival description and of best practice and innovation in the archives profession. The post holder is required to work on site 13:30-17:00 on Tuesdays and 09:00-17:00 Wednesday-Friday.

The post is part-time 24.5 hours per week, 0.7 FTE and permanent. 

The salary will be on the LSHTM salary scale, Grade 5 in the range £39,984 - £45,728 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service.  Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London.
