Research Fellow (0.5-1.0 FTE)

The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is one of the world’s leading public health universities. The role holder will conduct research as part of a project to analyse the health impact of the ongoing war in Gaza. The Research Fellow will specifically undertake one or two distinct analyses of existing data on health service disruptions and impacts in terms of disease, disability and mortality, to be agreed with the PI, and write up resulting work for publication.

The post-holder will Arabic speaking and have a postgraduate degree, ideally a doctoral degree, in a relevant topic with an in-depth knowledge of the Palestinian health system and of the burden of disease in the occupied Palestinian territories. Experience conducting quantitative analysis, including cross-sectional studies and writing up results for scientific journal publication is essential. The successful candidate will have proven ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively as part of a research team, and proven ability to meet research deadlines. The post is available either part-time or full-time (0.5 – 1.0 FTE) and fixed term until 31 August 2024 with a likely extension subject to obtaining a no-cost extension from the funder. The post is funded by the UK Humanitarian Innovation Hub and is available immediately.

The salary will be on the Academic Pathway salary scale, Grade 6 at £43,947 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service.  Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part-time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at LSHTM.
