The Medical Research Council Unit The Gambia is one of the largest scientific research centres in sub-Saharan Africa, with an international reputation for ground-breaking research into some of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in the tropics. We aim to improve people’s health in developing countries by striving for excellence in research, healthcare, and training. Our research program spans basic scientific research, clinical studies, epidemiological studies and intervention trials, and translational research. The field and laboratory-based work draws on excellent research and clinical facilities and attracts international funding.
Applications are invited for a Head of Governance and Research Support Office to join our Unit. The post-holder will develop a detailed understanding and provide guidance to the Unit and the wider clinical research community on the implications for clinical research of specific regulations and guidance, such as the clinical trials regulations, the Data Protection Act, the Research Governance Framework, and the regulatory aspects of clinical trials.
The successful applicant will have a relevant postgraduate degree or professional qualification and a minimum and formal ICH-GCP training. They will also possess expert knowledge of clinical trial methodology and regulatory requirements. Substantial experience in the design, conduct, analysis and reporting of clinical trials is essential. Ability to draft protocols, reports, funding applications and regulatory documents is desirable.
The post is full-time 35 hours per week, 1.0 FTE and fixed term until 31 March 2027. The post is funded by the MRCG@LSHTM core funding and is available immediately.
The salary will be on the Professional Services salary scale, Grade 8 in the range £62,928 - £72,092 per annum (inclusive). The post is subject to LSHTM terms and conditions of service and is offered until March 2027. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in The Gambia.
