Applications are invited for a Research Fellow to join our Nutrition and Planetary Health Theme at the MRC Unit in The Gambia. 

The Medical Research Council Unit, The Gambia is one of the largest scientific research centres in sub-Saharan Africa, with an international reputation for ground-breaking research into some of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in the tropics. We aim to improve people's health in developing countries by striving for excellence in research, healthcare, and training. Our research program spans basic scientific research, clinical studies, epidemiological studies and intervention trials, and translational research. The field and laboratory-based work draws on excellent research and clinical facilities and attracts international funding. 

The post-holder will join an interdisciplinary team in The Gambia working on environmental change and human health in collaboration with partners in Senegal, Burkina Faso, the UK, and Switzerland. The successful applicant will have a postdoctoral degree in a relevant topic and demonstrable experience conducting novel environment change and health research from conception to output. Some experience of contributing to research grant applications is desirable.

The post is full time 35 hours per week, 1.0 FTE and fixed term until 30 June 2027. The post is funded by the MRC UK Applied Global Health Research Award and is available immediately.

The salary will be on the Academic Pathway salary Grade 6 in the range of £44,847 - £50,808 per annum (inclusive). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in The Gambia at MRC. Free-furnished residential accommodation and a package of overseas allowances are available.
