Research Fellow in Public Health Data Science and Epidemiology

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic and experienced Public Health Data Scientist/Epidemiologist to join a multi-disciplinary team working on environment and health as part of the London partnership of the Health Data Research UK Public Health theme at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. 

The main aim of the post will be to take forward a range of projects focused on the linkage and analyses of large-secondary social, environmental and health data in the field of built and physical environment and health; to evaluate the impact of environmental and other interventions and to explore the use of machine learning approaches in generating novel measures of health relevant environmental exposures. 

This post will work in HDRUK-London and across the HDR UK organizational structure with scientific theme leads.

The post-holder will have a higher degree, ideally a PhD, in data science, medical statistics, informatics/bioinformatics, quantitative social science, epidemiology, computer science, urban analytics/informatics, mathematics, physics or related subject. They must have training in advanced quantitative methods with an emphasis on the linkage and analysis of big data, including spatially referenced data, and relevant research experience along with experience in large-scale data management. The post is for 27 months and available from 1st June 2019. The salary will be on the Academic scale, Grade 6 scale in the range £39,304–£42,674 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service.  Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Director’s Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available.
