The Department of Global Health and Development is seeking to appoint a Research Fellow to join the the National Institute for Health Research Global Health Research Group (NIHR GHRG) on a package of care for the mental health of survivors of violence in South Asia. 

This post will provide the opportunity to:

·       Develop public health, research and teaching competencies with a focus on the NIHR GHRG

·         contribute to specific areas of public health and clinical research within the NIHR GHRG

·        To support the development of additional grant applications 

The primary functions of the position are to undertake research in violence and mental health research and contribute to teaching in relation to the NIHR GHRG. The postholder will take part in the training programme within the grant and will have wider training opportunities within Institute for Global Health (IGH), LSHTM and UCL.

The role will require a PhD in a relevant field, experience researching violence against women/children, mental health or related subject area and proven experience working in low and middle income countries. The post is full-time, based for six months per year in Goa, India, with the NGO-partner Sangath and the remaining six months based at LSHTM in London.

The successful candidate may be asked to support students or researchers technically or logistically to ensure the research is successful. Some experience contributing to grant applications and resource budgetary management is desirable.

The post is available from 1st December 2019. The salary will be on the Academic Grade 6 scale in the range £40,011 £45,437 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting), and is funded until 31st Mach 2021 with the possibility of extension. The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service.  Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Director’s Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available.
