IT Developer and Database Manager (Ethiopia)

An exciting new position has been created for an IT Developer and Database Manager to join the LSHTM collaboration with Haramaya University (HU) in Eastern Ethiopia, known as the Hararghe Health Research partnership (HHR). The post is a key role in the Ethiopia-based team, and the successful candidate will lead IT infrastructure development, software programming, database development and data management in partnership with Haramaya University senior IT staff.

A programme of research is being developed between LSHTM and HU, based on the initial investment of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in the Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance (CHAMPS) project. CHAMPS includes streams of work for social science, clinical surveillance, microbiology and pathology and an international standard laboratory has been set up on-site to support this work. Robust IT and data management capability to enable integration of field, clinical and laboratory data and ensure secure and reliable IT provision is vital to the success of the programme.

The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience, substantial experience of working in IT, skills in systems analysis, data management and database design, experience in network design and management, and knowledge of the design, implementation and integration of mobile applications. We are looking for someone who has managed a team, is a good team player, a creative problem solver and a clear communicator. 

The position is full time and fixed term until 30 June 2019.  The appointment will be made on the Professional Support Grade 6 scale in the range £39,304 - £44,634 per annum inclusive.  The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available.
