Research Fellow in Epidemiology (Benin)

We are seeking to recruit a Research Fellow to support the delivery of a cluster randomized controlled trial (RCT) on vector control interventions involving the most promising new generation of long-lasting insecticidal net. The RCT aims to produce evidence on the efficacy of two type of dual active-ingredient LLIN’s compared to standard LLIN’s against malaria infection and transmission by resistant mosquito populations. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of high-profile research that will help define future malaria control policy of the World Health Organisation (WHO) and African member states.

The post-holder will support all epidemiological components of the project and will work within a larger multi-disciplinary team. The post-holder will report to the study PI and work closely with the LSHTM study epidemiologist (Co-I) and other scientists from LSHTM and Centre de Recherche Entomologique de Cotonou (CREC). 

The successful applicant will hold an Msc or a PhD in epidemiology (or similar); significant relevant field experience, ideally living and working in Sub Saharan Africa; strong analytical and data management skills; excellent communication skills in English language (oral and written); Good communication skills in French language (oral and written). A record of supervision or management of a research field team is desirable. Further particulars are included in the job description.

There is the potential for this role to be integrated with the role of Trial Manager if the candidate is judged suitably experienced. In this situation, the successful candidate will be appointed on a higher spine point.  

This is a full-time position based overseas in Benin and is available from 1st January 2019 until 31st December 2020. Salary is on the Academic Grade 6 Research Fellow scale in the range £39,304 - £44,634 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service.  Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Director’s Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available.
