The EHG seeks a dynamic Research Uptake Officer for the SHARE research consortium programme. SHARE aims to generate knowledge to improve systems for sanitation and hygiene delivery. SHARE will directly contribute to accelerated and equitable progress on the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) target for sanitation.
The post holder will have a strong understanding of international development, global health issues and the sanitation and hygiene sector(s).&amp;nbsp;He/she will have a track record of engaging and influencing key sector stakeholders and producing compelling communications for a range of audiences &amp;ndash; especially policy-makers and practitioners. The post-holder will report to the Policy and Communications Manager but will work closely with other members of the EHG as well as staff from across the four other SHARE partners.

The post is a full-time (1.0 FTE) appointment, 35 hours per week and is eligible for 30 days annual leave plus 6 Dean&amp;rsquo;s days specified by LSHTM. The initial period of appointment is until 19th January 2015. The position will then be renewed subject to a performance review and the availability of funding. The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine is seeking to appoint a senior position in the Economics of Public Health.&amp;nbsp; This post is a collaborative venture with Public Health England (PHE) who are providing the funding, and the post-holder will have an honorary contract with PHE.&amp;nbsp; The successful applicant will be expected to work closely with both institutions.&amp;nbsp; The post will be located in the Department of Social and Environmental Health Research of the Faculty of Public Health and Policy, but will be expected to draw on relevant expertise and develop close working relationships, as appropriate, within other Departments and Faculties of the School.&amp;nbsp; The applicant is also expected to spend approximately half of their time at PHE Colindale to draw on expertise and facilitate joint working with colleagues based there.

Applicants will join a flourishing team of health economists and staff from complementary disciplines in the Faculty of Public Health and Policy, and should bring an international reputation in relevant areas of economics.&amp;nbsp; Successful candidates will have interests in economic evaluation and cost-effectiveness analysis, especially as applied to aspects related to public health, such as communicable disease and environmental health, and evaluating complex public health interventions which cross multiple sectors.&amp;nbsp; Within environmental health, specific areas might include, but are not limited to, housing, flood risks, cold weather responses, extreme weather events, chemical and radiation hazard responses, and adaptation to climate change. 

The successful candidate will be keen to maximise the advantages of bringing together the strengths of PHE and LSHTM, to create a world class programme of work in this area. As part of this appointment, two PHE-funded PhD studentships are offered, with topics and students to be determined by the applicant and to be jointly supervised by the applicant and a member of PHE staff, as well as an additional part-time Senior Lecturer currently working within the Department.

The Malaria Centre at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine houses the largest number of malaria researchers, students and support staff in Europe. Organising and promoting regular meetings and seminars held by the Malaria Centre including annual retreats to which overseas partners are usually invited. Applicants should have experience in budgets, monitoring expenditure &amp;amp; income, and providing quarterly financial statements: Liaising with the Director of the Malaria Centre and Faculty Administrators in respect of monitoring grant submissions and awards to ensure that the Malaria Centre levy is applied for and/or collected. A background in communications would be advantageous as the successful applicant will be working with LSHTM External Relations Department to develop and implement a communications and advocacy strategy for the Malaria Centre and producing educational and other materials as necessary for dissemination to various target audiences.

A key concern is the appropriateness of prescribing anti-psychotic drugs for people with dementia and consequent management of behavioural and psychological difficulties.&amp;nbsp; Current health policy is that anti-psychotic prescriptions for people with dementia must be reviewed and where appropriate withdrawn.&amp;nbsp; However there has not yet been an evaluation of the effect of withdrawing anti-psychotic drugs on the quality of life of people with dementia and their carers.&amp;nbsp; 

We are seeking an enthusiastic quantitative researcher to join a new research team (of four people), funded by the government (DH Policy Research Programme), focused on establishing high quality health services research on dementia care. Developing this area of research is one of our new priorities in the Department of Health Services Research &amp;amp; Policy at the London School of Hygiene &amp;amp; Tropical Medicine. We are excited to be undertaking this in collaboration with the leading patient organization for dementia in the UK, the Alzheimer&amp;rsquo;s Society.

The post-holder will be responsible for co-ordinating and managing an evaluation of the withdrawal of anti-psychotic drugs for people with dementia, including recruiting and liaising with sites and GPs; helping train interviewers to administer questionnaires to patients and their lay carers, helping train patient advocates; maintaining commitment of care home staff; analyzing and writing up and presenting the results. .&amp;nbsp; 

The post is for 25 months (commencing by 1 November 2013) and will be based in the Department of Health Services Research &amp;amp; Policy, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine 

Salary will be in the lecturer range &amp;pound;42,043 - &amp;pound;47,322 per annum, inclusive.&amp;nbsp;

We are seeking to appoint a Principal Scientific Officer in the Teaching and Diagnostic Unit within the Faculty of Infectious and Tropical Diseases at the London School of Hygiene &amp;amp; Tropical Medicine.&amp;nbsp; The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day provision of practical Microbiology teaching within the Faculty. They will act as principal demonstrator and, when required, give lectures on aspects of laboratory microbiology and subjects of specialist skills. They will be responsible for the provision and supervision of microbiology practical examinations and in-course assessments and assist in the development of appropriate MSc modules and short courses in the Faculty. The post holder will be able to advise Faculty staff and students on microbiological issues and will have responsibility for the day to day management of the Scientific Officer.
The successful applicant will hold registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and have an MSc (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline. S/he will have significant post-registration experience in a Clinical Microbiology laboratory including management, training and safety aspects and experience of delivering practical classes in medical microbiology. Expertise in diagnostic bacteriology is essential. Applicants should also have excellent communication and organisational skills. &amp;nbsp;Experience of teaching at Masters level would be an advantage

The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine have recently reorganised their provision of IT services to create a consolidated IT department. The intention is to create a service that enables IT to be a fully supportive and active participant in the development of the School. As part of this change the school requires an Analyst Programmer. 
&amp;nbsp;
The primary focus of this role will be to support and develop the School&amp;rsquo;s SITS student records system. The applicant should have good experience in supporting SITS on a day to day basis as well as being able to develop its core functionality and produce bespoke reports.
&amp;nbsp;
The applicant will also be required to provide basic cover for the School&amp;rsquo;s Agresso finance system from time to time. Experience with Agresso will be viewed favourably, although not essential. The successful candidate will have experience in working in a Prince2-based project environment, and will be expected to champion good-practice across our organisation.
