          <description>Category: Academic  | Closing Date: 16 Apr 2010 | Advancing methods in biostatistics and epidemiology is one of the strategic priorities of the London School of Hygiene &amp;amp; Tropical Medicine. We are seeking an outstanding individual to take a leading role in this area and to develop and extend our thriving research programme. He or she will also contribute to our post-graduate MSc, PhD and short-course teaching in epidemiological methods and causal inference.
The London School of Hygiene &amp;amp; Tropical Medicine is an international centre of excellence in public health and tropical medicine. In the 2008 UK Research Assessment Exercise the School was the third highest ranked institution in the country, with over 70% of its research assessed as world leading or internationally excellent.
The successful candidate will hold a without-duration contract and be appointed at a level commensurate with qualifications and experience.

          <description>Category: Academic  | Closing Date: 16 Mar 2010 | The Medical Statistics Unit wishes to appoint a statistician, to work on the development, application and dissemination of statistical methods for the analysis of partially observed datasets. The successful applicant will work closely with Professor Mike Kenward and Dr James Carpenter on
&amp;bull;&amp;nbsp; developing and applying statistical methods for missing data, specifically multiple imputation and augmented inverse probability weighting;
&amp;bull;&amp;nbsp;training and equipping medical and social science researchers in analysing partially observed datasets through (i) development of teaching resources, including web-based resources; (ii) co-leading workshops and short courses, and (iii) supporting software.
This post represents an exciting opportunity to contribute to a very active research area within a highly regarded research group.
The successful applicant requires an aptitude for and experience of both applied and methodological research, excellent communication skills (evidenced, for example, by contributing to short courses) and statistical computing experience.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; A MSc in statistics or equivalent is essential, and PhD involving development and application of methodology to medical or social data desirable.
The appointment, funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, is available for 1 year with the probability of further extension.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; The salary will be on the School&amp;rsquo;s Research Fellow scale, currently &amp;pound;35,370 &amp;ndash; &amp;pound;40,188 per annum.

The Centre is seeking a Research Assistant to develop and manage a growing programme of experimental and naturalistic research on persuasive communication and human motivation, particularly with relevance to everyday hygiene behaviours. In addition, the post holder will be encouraged to develop his or her own research agenda in line with the activities of the group and will be expected to contribute to the research output of the School. The post holder will work closely with Drs Robert Aunger and Valerie Curtis.
This is a part-time post (0.5 FTE) available initially to December 2010 but may be extended subject to funding.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Salary is in the range of &amp;pound;30,792 - &amp;pound;35,370 per annum pro rata.

The post-holder will conduct qualitative interviews with young people and older citizens in London. The project is funded by NIHR and the post is full-time for 18 months from 1st June.
The successful applicant will have a postgraduate degree in the social sciences and have experience of qualitative research methods. Experience of conducting and analysing interviews is essential.

The London International Development Centre has been awarded a &amp;pound;3.5m grant by the Leverhulme Trust to develop an innovative programme to link agriculture and health research for international development in the new Leverhulme Centre for Integrative Research on Agriculture and Health. This brings together research groups from six University of London Colleges, comprising economists, sociologists, anthropologists, nutritionists and epidemiologists to develop a programme of inter-sectoral and inter-disciplinary research, supported by new appointments, studentships and courses.
The new Centre will appoint two Professors to provide vision and leadership. Candidates will have an outstanding international reputation in the study of agricultural or health systems, a record of successful research linking the two, and a commitment to inter-sectoral and inter-disciplinary approaches. One post, under the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), will focus on health links into agriculture and the other, under the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), on agricultural links into health.

You should have proven administrative experience including maintaining diaries, making complex travel arrangements and organising catering. An interest in health and social issues is desirable as is experience of working in the university sector.
