We have a vacancy for an epidemiologist, or a statistician with an interest in infectious disease epidemiology, to join a team working on the epidemiology and control of malaria. The post is based in the Tropical Epidemiology Group (TEG), a leading international group of statistical epidemiologists working on the health problems of developing countries, located in the School's Infectious Disease Epidemiology Unit.
 
The person appointed will work on studies of the epidemiology and control of malaria in Sub Saharan Africa including a trial of the efficacy of a new malaria vaccine candidate, studies of intermittent preventive treatment in children, and studies of the delivery of effective malaria treatment. The postholder will contribute to study design, management of data and statistical analysis of results, and the preparation of research findings for publication. The post is based in London, with occasional visits to field sites being required. The successful candidate will also provide technical support to scientists based in the project sites, contribute to the School’s postgraduate teaching programme, and will have the opportunity to pursue methodological research arising from the group’s activities.
 
Applicants should have a qualification in epidemiology or statistics, preferably to PhD level, substantial practical experience of data analysis in an epidemiological context, and a track record of peer-reviewed publications. The ability to work both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary scientific team is essential. Experience of working in developing countries would be an advantage.
 
The appointment will be for 2 years and will be made on the School’s Lecturer or Research Fellow scales - £35,370 to £42,424 per annum, inclusive.
